Dear Mr Eveleigh,

Re: Telephone House - Cala Homes Scheme of Works TW 02/02409

I wish to register my grave concerns regarding various aspects of the proposed scheme of works.

Damage to buildings

The volume and weight of construction traffic will create enormous potential for damage to basements and cellars the entire length of York Road. Our narrow one way residential street is simply not suitable for these sorts of load. Neither you nor Cala Homes can guarantee that there will be no damage to our properties. What recompense will be made if damage does occur ?

Parking Restriction

In order to accommodate the construction traffic I understand that parking bays from 30 to 42 York Road will be suspended and the pavement closed. This is an outrageous incumbence with which to further burden the already disrupted residents of York Road. The parking situation along our road is difficult at the best of times, added to the worry of inevitable damage to some parked cars during the two year construction period.

Mobile Crane

The proposed crane to be stationed outside the York Road entrance to the site will take up most of the road and be right outside my front door. This will be more than a mere inconvenience.

May I suggest that constant heavy traffic, restricted parking, a crane in the road, noise and other pollution, potential damage to buildings and vehicles, does not seem like "some control" as recommended by the Inspector in "order to protect the amenities of the residents of York Road" (paragraph 29). In fact I cannot see any evidence of effort to accommodate the wishes and needs of York Road residents in this scheme of works.

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is our elected representative to safeguard the interests and needs of the town's residents. Against an unrelenting tide of extremely negative local feeling towards this scheme of works which would disrupt so many of our lives I urge you to decline it. Please do not add to our growing disillusionment in local government by accepting this proposal.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,
Naomi Streeten

Objections to CALA Homes' Second Scheme of Works for the Telephone House Development

Is CALA really going ahead with THAT scheme?
