Housing Plan Sparks Protest

Residents fear their quiet neighbourhood will be devastated by traffic chaos if plans for 67 new homes are given the green light.

CALA Homes (South) Ltd has applied to South Bucks District Council to build in Butlers Court, off Wattleton Road, Beaconsfield. Twelve of the homes on the 12.5-acre privately-owned land will be social housing. Residents are worried about the amount of traffic which may be generated in Wattleton Road which was identified by Beaconsfield Town Council as one of the most dangerous roads for speeding two weeks ago./

Former Beaconsfield Mayor Bob Baile, of Wattleton Road said "With three schools in this road and the increase of traffic, there is a potential trap there at the moment. "They are going to have to put extra control on traffic because we get a tidal flow in the morning and the evening, but having more housing will make it much worse. "It will be a dreadful mess because the proposal just hasn't been thought through, and I am very concerned about the safety of children at school."

Beaconsfield Town Council objected to the proposals last Thursday because of the type and density of housing, increase in traffic, loss of protected trees and proximity to existing homes. Cllr Lesley Mallinder said: "We feel that traffic will increase in the area but also that the three storey buildings proposed will look incongruous. The loss of trees and the higher density is also a concern."

Pamela Gilchriest, sales and marketing director of CALA (South) Ltd, said: "We are sorry that the reaction from residents has not been totally favourable. As yet, we are not totally aware of the objections, but we will be looking at them in detail. "The proposal is in the very early stages of planning and we can assure residents that we will consult extensively with the local planning authority with regard to any comments they receive about our application."
